Wandering is Phnom Penh for 3 hours was a bit tiring. At six o’clock in the evening the double decker bus pulled away from the city center. The bus passed through the great Mekong before crossing it to approach Siem Reap, the home of the Angkor Wat Archeological Park.

I wasn’t able too see the rural part of Cambodia because it was dark outside. All I know was we were traversing a poor maintained country road. I was forced to sleep with ear buds because even the television in front was not friendly at that moment. The bus crew played a Cambodian variety show. Arrgg… I said to myself if we were in the Philippines this will not be the case.

About 1AM the bus stopped in a terminal full of tuktuk waiting for travelers. The conductor shouted “Siem Reap” and I went down the bus and saw my wrong spelled name on the hands of one tuktuk driver.
The reception at the bus station in Phnom Penh got my name and said that the bus station is far from the city. So, they have a free tuktuk that would bring me to my hotel. Generous isn’t?
But actually, Bou Savy Guesthouse has a free pick up but I emailed them when I was at the bus station that the bus company offered me a free service. I showed to the tuktuk driver my voucher that has the address of Bou Savy Guesthouse and good enough he knows the place.
Before I could step on his tuktuk he offered me tour in Angkor Wat and other temples. I said no because Bou Savy Guesthouse arranged it for me. He still insisted saying that he is not being paid for his service to me that morning so he was just hoping that he could get me for the Angkor Wat. Out of pity I asked him how much he will be charging me. He was charging me $20 versus $12 at Bou Savy Guesthouse. I said “no, that’s expensive”. He replied to me “If you cannot get me for tomorrow, I cannot bring you to your hotel” I was upset by his answer and just said to him “ok!” Then I entered to the office and asked for a telephone (the voucher has the phone number of Bou Savy Guesthouse) to dial Bou Savy’s number. Well nobody is awake at 1AM!
The supervisor or manager in the office asked me what the problem was. Before I could open my mouth the tuktuk driver went inside the office and told me that he was bringing me to Bou Savy Guesthouse. I still told the manager the problem and then they talked in Khmer.
I was afraid when we were on the road heading to Bou Savy Guesthouse. He might drop me elsewhere and kill me. Haha… I’m a morbid thinker. He dropped me at the right place without any bruises. Hehe… the bus station was not that far from the guesthouse after all. So I guess that not a big lost on him.
I still have to walk a dark, rough and narrow road to get to the guesthouse. I was very thankful I came there safe!
The room was ok to me. The biggest asset of Bou Savy Guesthouse is their staff. They’ve got a good staff there. They were very accommodating and helpful on all my queries. I guess this guesthouse deserves a recommendation =)
